Areas of Activity
SOCIAL INCLUSION AND MIGRATION
In line with the Europe 2020 strategy targets which aim to lift at least 20 million people out of poverty and social exclusion the networks and its members have set up over the years a number of processes of cooperation in the field of social affairs and welfare focusing on elderly care policies, policies toward disabled and policies aimed at fostering integration of migrants in the local contexts.
CAPACITY BUILDING AND TRAINING
Since 2006 SERN has been working to improve the capacity of its members to tackle effectively the challenges posed by the participation in transnational processes of cooperation in the context of the European Union. More specifically, we have succesfully implemented training activities in the context of the Europe For Citizens Programme aimed at planning and management.
A new area of cooperation introduced by the SERN strategic plan 2016-2017 with the aim of exchanging practices and solutions around local and regional strategies regarding the improvement of citizens condition.
LOCAL AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT
SERN aims at developing exchanges around the theme of local and regional development. In particular the network facilitates the devlopment of processes of cooperation among its members focusing on the policies and actions which can foster growth and competitivness.
ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT
At the core of the Europe 2020 strategy, sustainability is a key element for an effective local development. SERN members share common challenges of energy efficiency, waste management, and in green house gas emissions related to local mobility, public building management, public procurement and more. Since 2013 SERN acts as a support organization of the Covenant of Mayors.
