Network on Support to Parenthood Policies


Partners:
Municipality of Vanersborg, Municipalities of Ravenna, Scandiano, Imola and Municipality of Holmestrand (Norway), Municipality of Almansa (Spain).

Length of the project: 10 months (2008-2009)

Objectives: - To strengthen the role of parents
- To find a specific methodology to foster integration of immigrant families
- To develop innovative methods to integrate at municipal level different levels of interventions (political, technical and civil society).


Activities: 2 events of 3 days each.

1st event: Vanersborg, June 2008
Issues discussed:
- Introduction to national and regional legislations
- Strategic agreement among public institutions and NGOs to support parenthood
- Family conflict reduction’s strategies in the family centres practice
- New welcome model for immigrant families.

2nd event: Ravenna, February 2009
Issues discussed:
- Different social experiences of support to parenthood
- Reception and integration of foreign and disabled children
- Systems of conciliation for the support of the parent

Results: - Strong knowledge exchange
- Exchange of best practices about the cooperation between family and school and family and local services
- Agreement to deepen this subject with a Grundvigt project (approved with activities held in 2009 and to be held in 2010).

Follow-up

Learning partnership on Support to Parenthood


Partners:
Municipality of Vanersborg, Municipalities of Ravenna, Scandiano, Imola and Municipality of Hyvinkaa (Finland).

Length of the project: 24 months (2008-2010)

Objectives:
• By Socializing the experiences among the partners, the partnership helps the practitioners of each Countries to get more awareness about their practices in order to support to the parenthood, especially in favour of these families which are at risk of social exclusion;
• Besides, it helps the same people to describe these experiences in the shape of Best Practices, using specific, analytic formats and outcome indicators;
• Still, it promotes the exchange of Best Practices between the Countries involved in the partnership;
• Then, it realises new projects as a result of experiences exchange;
• Not least, it permits to confront the outcomes of these implementation;
• At last, it allows to realise a basic Handbook of European Best Practices in order to support the families at risk of social exclusion through the Community Empowerment methodology.
The main issues which we want to treat into the learning project are the following:
• Community Empowerment: theory and practice;
• Pilot experiences in the Europe;
• The role of the community leader (or guide, if you prefer);
• The community care and social networking;
• How to implement community-oriented services.
• Strategies of visibility, awareness and “social marketing”;
• Monitoring and (self) evaluation of the project.

Activities:
The activities include local and tranational smeinars where the learners one one country will become trainers in the other countries.

Results:
• In the involved institutions the practitioners will participate to local and transnational activities mobilities and actions of dissemination, realised by the direct participants of the project;
• At the same way, the involved municipality will realise public initiatives of information and visibility of the project, also by media;
• The development of an “Handbook of Community Empowerment Methodology” (which is an outcome of this partnership project) will be used as an instrument for lifelong learning both into the institutions, and in the formal system of local education.
