ASP Città di Bologna is the public body for social welfare and personal care of the Municipality of Bologna. It was established in 2014, because of a merger between some of the most long-established charities in the city of Bologna. ASP creates well-being and social safety by planning and offering social services based on the evolution of the citizens’ needs. The organisation collaborates with the most relevant institutions in the field of health care and social welfare of the city of Bologna.
ASP represents the welfare system of the community and is responsible for the coordination of social and welfare services on District level. Its core activities are managing and providing social and care services to the most vulnerable groups of the population, including long term care for dependent seniors, social inclusion of people living in poverty and marginalised conditions, the protection and integration of immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
ASP’s main activities are dedicated to:
1) Social Housing, inclusion and prevention activities for vulnerable people. This service provides accommodation facilities and different kinds of housing opportunities, depending on the needs of the vulnerable individuals. ASP manages services and projects designed to prevent social exclusion, homelessness and marginalization on different levels: employment, health care, social interaction, among others;
2) Dependent seniors with different degrees of non-self-sufficiency, through a wide range of services: from residential facilities and daily care centres to protected apartments and home-based services;
3) Immigrants and asylum seekers. The local unit of International Protection is part of an institutional national system called SAI – Reception and Integration System that incorporates all local projects for the reception and integration of asylum seekers and international protection beneficiaries.
