Support to Parenthood

Description

This partnership has the main aim to promote an exchange of best practices (that is: successful projects) about the strategies for supporting parenthood. Learning unknown best practices existing in the same field where each of us are working is the best manner for improving our professionalism. Then, this project addresses the practitioners who are working with parents for improving their capacities on their children’s care, especially during the pregnancy and the first six years of their children’s life. All the partners share the assumption that in the Countries with a high industrialization level, the main problem for many families is the loneliness, which can became proper isolation specially for the non-autochthonous families. The contemporary lack of material resources causes a dangerous circle, as the problems increase and the parental role becomes ever more inadequate. The main strategy for coping these situations is not the direct support by the professionals (which is sometimes needful, but hardly ever defining): it needs to create many permanent networks between families, for stimulating self-mutual-help processes. The professionals (social workers, teachers, obstetrician nurses, psychologists, pedagogues, etc…) can become promoters of these networks using the Community Empowerment Methodology. In short, this project trained the practitioners who train the parents.

Objectives

Concretely, the objectives of the partnership are the following:

  • Thanks to the effort of socializing the own experiences to the others, the partnership helps the practitioners of each Countries to get more awareness about their practices in order to support to the parenthood, especially in favour of these families which are at risk of social exclusion;
  •  Besides, it helps the same people to describe these experiences in the shape of Best Practices, using specific, analytic formats and outcome indicators;
  •  Still, it promotes the exchange of Best Practices between the Countries involved in the partnership;
  • Then, it realises new projects as a result of experiences exchange;
  • Not least, it permits to confront the outcomes of these implementation;
    At last, it allows to realise a basic Handbook of European Best Practices in order to support the families at risk of social exclusion through the Community Empowerment methodology.
