The CARE-GO project responds to challenges shared across Europe: ageing populations, rising competence requirements and growing pressure on welfare systems. It addresses them by building capacity in the workplace rather than through classroom training alone. Through practice- and team-based learning in welfare services for older people, the project will strengthen shared European VET practice in this sector. It will enhance professional competence, organisational learning and systemic capacity for continuous improvement across diverse European contexts.
The overall aim of the project is to strengthen structured and sustainable competence development within welfare services through transnational cooperation, research-based methods and ethical integration of welfare technology.
The specific objectives of the project are:
1) To develop a shared European learning framework for work-integrated and team-based learning in elderly care.
2) To design and pilot a modular European Practical Toolbox.
3) To enhance the professional competence of health and social care staff through work-integrated learning.
4) To promote transferability and long-term sustainability by piloting and evaluating the framework and the toolbox across diverse European contexts.

The expected outputs of this project are:
1. A shared European model for team-based learning in the elderly care sector.
2. Practical methods for everyday learning and improvement processes.
3. Documented practical training activities in Sweden.
4. Documented piloting experiences from the Italian context.
5. Guidelines and a Toolbox translated into 5 languages (IT, SV, EN, DK, PL).
6. An ethical framework for professional reflection.
By developing a new framework and toolbox, CARE-GO will have a substantial impact on health and social care staff and their working environment. The framework and toolbox will enable competence development that continues over time and lasts. While the primary target group is health and social care staff, older people and their relatives will benefit indirectly from strengthened professional competence and more personalised and responsive care practices.
The project is expected to:
Strengthen structured competence development in participating welfare services.
Support the integration of the European learning framework and practical toolbox into internal training systems and daily routines.
Build organisations’ capacity to plan, integrate and follow up competence development systematically.
Contribute to greater coherence between research-based methods, workplace learning and quality assurance in European welfare systems.
