Erasmus+, KA2
The TIPS project originates from the collective ambition of partner organizations to address a critical need in primary education: supporting children who have experienced trauma. They might have been exposed to different traumatic events, that could include violence, emotional disturbances, poverty, conflict or natural disasters. These experiences deeply shape a child’s ability to learn and grow. International research indicates that as many as 2 out of every 3 children of school age will have experienced a traumatic event before they reach age 17. This project researches the understanding and circulation of Trauma Informed Practice in schools across Europe. The project endeavours to educate caregivers about the importance of being trauma-informed when working with children in early education. A programme of self-care strategies is going to support the educators as well, to ensure that they are less at risk of burn out and to enable them to effectively support the children in their care.
The general objective of the project is to equip schools with trauma-informed practices to foster inclusive, supportive, and effective learning environments for all students.
The specific objectives of the project are:
1) To build teachers’ and school staff’s capacity to implement trauma-informed practices.
2) To enhance support and resources for trauma-informed practices.
3) To promote policy guidance in addressing trauma based on early intervention in schools.
The project will conduct training sessions for professionals, develop educational resources on trauma awareness, and establish interdisciplinary collaborations.
The main programmed activities include:
The expected outputs of this project are:
1. An e-book on “Trauma informed practices in schools”, showcasing a Report outlining the history and current good practices in place in each partner’s country available on the project’s website.
2. A practice informed toolkit for educators including:
3. A collaborative report detailing the results and outcomes of the TIPS project and presenting findings of the project that will guide future policy development in the field of trauma informed care.
The TIPS project will have an intense impact on students, teachers, and the overall school environment. The effects will be seen in academic performance, emotional well-being, classroom behaviour, and school culture, also promoting positive interactions, enhancing classroom management and inclusivity, reducing disciplinary issues in schools and promoting collaboration within and between schools across Europe, expanding and cultivating international professional learning communities.
The project is expected to:
