About the Member
IC Fermi-Ferrari is a public comprehensive school located in the Municipality of Langhirano (Province of Parma, Emilia-Romagna), a town of approximately 10,000 inhabitants situated at the foothills of the Apennines.
The school consists of six campuses: three pre-primary schools (Gianni Rodari in Langhirano, with five classes; Torrechiara, with one class; and Pilastro, with two classes), two primary schools (Bruno Ferrari in Langhirano, with 17 classes; and Luigi Riccardi in Torrechiara, with four classes), and one lower secondary school (Fermi, with 13 classes). The Institute provides education for children aged 3–6, 6–11 and 11–14.
The Institute is located in the heart of one of Italy’s most renowned food and wine regions, characterised by a strong agri-food sector including Parma Ham, Parmigiano Reggiano and wine production. The high demand for labour has generated significant inward migration.
In 2025–2026 the Institute enrolled 945 students (191 pre-primary, 466 primary and 286 lower secondary) and employs 122 teachers and 30 non-teaching staff.
The large number of students with a migrant background has made inclusion, multilingualism and internationalisation strategic priorities.
Supported by PNRR, PN21–27 and municipal funding, the Institute offers digital laboratories, STEM activities, multilingual pathways and after-school programmes.
The ScuoLab inclusion project provides socio-educational workshops supporting integration.
The primary school is an authorised Cambridge examination centre offering preparation for Cambridge English Qualifications (Pre-A1 Starters and A1 Movers) with native English-speaking teachers and participates in eTwinning projects.
Environmental sustainability is promoted through the project “Facciamo la differenza – Everyday Practices for Active Citizenship”, implemented with local authorities.
The Institute also cooperates with I.I.S.S. Gadda and several local organisations to promote civic engagement and school-community cooperation.
